repress 2018... following on from isaac tichauer s street lessons release, the mysterious loft records calls in the talents of bicep, hackman, dorsia and lancelot for a choicest remix package. the french express signing turned many heads when he dropped his lauded devotion lp back in 2012, and since then the australian producer has risen to become a formidable name within modern day electronic music. therefore it s only fitting that an all-star cast were chosen to remix his latest release on loft records. bicep, who had an enormous 2015 with releases on aus and 50 weapons, begin the release with the only remix of higher level - a break infused cut fashioned for the dancefloor with a penetrating melody, echoing vocals and soaring pads. the first of three street lessons remixes then comes from hackman, known for his work on 20/20 vision and futureboogie, who incorporates serene synths and subtle stabs to transform the original into a quirky renovation with elements of funk. london duo dorsia then step up with a cacophony of sounds that build in suspense with the introduction of fuzzy atmospherics, until fellow australian and w&o street tracks artist lancelot generates a cavernous dub containing the originals infectious hook whilst implementing resounding rimshots and wobbly keys.

australia’s deep street soul, since signing to freestyle records in 2008, have earned a reputation as being right at the grittiest end of the hard funk scene who made a big impact from the outset - with even the mc5’s wayne kramer saying that their version of kick out the jams “... is the greatest version of the song ever recorded!”. from their debut self titled instrumental long player, to the 2011 follow up look out, watch out (and the addition of vocalist mighty may johnston) this band have grown, matured and honed thier songwriting skills, as well as maintaining their rare ability to really capture the essence of the original raw funk & soul artists that inspire them. 2016 sees them return with this quite spectacular new collection. whilst the diamond hard, driving grooves remain undiminished, there is also no doubt that the bands song writing has developed to an equally assured level. case in point is souls come alive - from monique boggia’s wurlitzer electric piano intro, the blistering horns and may johnson’s simply exemplary singing - the songs instant appeal will be lost on no one with an ear for genuine organic soul music. come alive also features guest vocalists joshua tavares and kylie auldist - come alive is deep street souls finest work - no if’s, but’s or maybe’s. it s a done deal.

neben ihrer rolle als offizielle hausband des brooklyner labels dunham records hat die menahan street band bereits 2008 ein erstes album veröffentlicht, dass nicht nur von den kritikern bejubelt wurde sondern auch deshalb von sich reden macht, weil es so oft gesampelt wurde, wie kaum eine andere zeitgenössische funk- oder soul-platte. samples von made the road by walking finden sich unter anderem in songs von weltbekannten kollegen wie jay-z, 50 cent, kid cudi und vielen anderen. 2011 spielte die band no time for dreaming, das debüt-album der soul-sensation charles bradley ein den sie auf seiner welt-tournee auch als backingband begleiteten. das album wurde co-komponiert und produziert von mbs-gründungsmitglied thomas brenneck.

back at the tail end of the last millennium bbe released a comprehensive overview of house music in the latter stages of the 20th century. >henry street music: the story so far - 1993 to 1999< was a slice of superior contemporary club classics featuring all of the key players, architects and music makers of the day. todd terry, armand van helden, kenny dope, dj sneak, 95 north, robbie rivera, davidson ospina, ralphi rosario, mike delgado, king britt, and a handful of others under various alter egos and nom de plumes. it was a given that they were all great records, what was all the more impressive was that they all originated from the same recording home, henry street music. a label conceived and devised by johnny demairo, an italian-american from jersey who talked the talk, could easily have been an extra in the sopranos, and was known affectionately as the shark. to others he was just plain johnny d, and one half of the production duo johnick with studio partner nicky p palermo jr. tracks such as d2- d2 by dj duke are collectors classics and will be re-released and re-mastered on vinyl for the first time in over 10 years
